Floriade 2012 local events planned in Brainerd, MN

The Northland Arboretum will host its own “Floriade, A Feast Of The Senses” open house and invitational party at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Jeff and Eileen Dirks of Brainerd will discuss what the Floriade is all about. Floriade is a World Horticultural Expo staged once every 10 years in the Netherlands. During the period from April until mid-October 2012, the sixth anniversary of Floriade will be held. The event will include 100 acres, 100,000 flowers, 30 country exhibitions, wine tastings, cultural shows, regional culinary delights. This is an event for flower lovers and anyone interested in the green technology of the future.

As part of the celebration of the Floriade, other local events include:

• “Ask a Master Gardener,” annual flower show scheduled Wednesday and July 28 at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa, sponsored by the Nisswa Garden Club.

• “Ask a Master Gardener,” community garden party is scheduled from 1-4 p.m. July 30 at the Washington Educational Services Building, sponsored by the Brainerd Community Education.

• “Ask a Master Gardener” at the Crow Wing County Fair scheduled Aug. 2-6 in the Horticulture Building at the county fairgrounds.
