For Floriade Expo 2022, the onset of spring is the start of the flowering season. Each day all the trees, plants and flowers are becoming more colourful and fragrant, inviting you to take a stroll around the Floriade site. The opportunity for you to experience this yourself is getting closer. From the middle of 2021 on you can already take a look at the site Floriade will be built on. This month we look back in particular at the wonderful news of Indonesia signing the official participation contract for Floriade and Italy confirming their participation. Other topics this month include our presence at virtual events to promote Floriade and an interview with dendrologist Jaap Smit about our arboretum.

Official participation Indonesia with “Wonderful Archipelago”


The Republic of Indonesia is the first country to sign the official participation contract for Floriade Expo 2022. A visit to the Indonesian pavilion will take you on a journey through traditional and modern Indonesian life where coexistence with nature is central.

Countdown to cable car ride


With the installation of the cables by Doppelmayr the construction of the cable car was newsworthy in March. The highway A6 was even closed off for a short period. During the Expo you will be able to float above the Floriade park and enjoy a unique experience. With the cable car Floriade presents an alternative means of transport in an urban area.

Italy confirms participation


Italy joins the list of countries who have confirmed their participation in Floriade. We’re looking forward to share details on how they will showcase their vision for a healthy green city and their culture during the Expo.

More than a garden of trees: dendrologist Jaap Smit about the arboretum


As one of the members of the Floriade planting team and expert in the field of trees, dendrologist Jaap Smit shares the story of the arboretum at Floriade with you. "I believe the arboretum will soon be just as important for Almere as the Euromast is for the city of Rotterdam," says Jaap Smit.

Seed planted to welcome international visitor


These past few weeks Floriade presented the Expo digitally to international journalists and the Travel Trade industry. By participating in IMM Trav Media Germany, ITB Berlin and the Garden Press Event London we gained widespread attention and planted a seed to welcome visitors from abroad at Floriade next year.

Throwback to 1960: 1st edition of Floriade


25 March 2021 marked the 61st anniversary of the first ever Floriade, which was held in the city of Rotterdam. On this date in 1960 Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix officially opened the event and the observational tower: Euromast. The Euromast is still the highest observation tower in the Netherlands and is an essential part of the city's skyline.

Animation ‘The Wonderful Archipelago’


Are you curious what you can expect from the Indonesian entry during Floriade Expo 2022? Watch the video of the pavilion of Indonesia, where in 2022 you will be taken into the local tradition of dynamic coexistence with nature. With the theme "The Wonderful Archipelago", the country brings the great diversity of nature and culture on the more than 17,000 islands of Indonesia to Floriade. Discover a traditional Indonesian house made of sustainable materials, a greenhouse with typical Indonesian plants and trees and a recreational ground where you can play traditional games with other visitors.
