Floriade 2012 Bicycle Bridge

The realization of a new Bicycle Bridge for Floriade 2012, a new highway, and the sound barriers is well on track.

The bike bridge was designed by Quist Wintermans Architects. The steel bridge is 6 meters high and wide and is 64 meters long. From ground level to the top of the arch is 13 meters high. The steel portion of the bridge weighs 130 tons. The bridge is for cyclists and crosses Highway A74.

The lighting of the bridge is mounted in the armrests and is needed for social security.
There are bat-friendly LED lights to protect animals from the artificial light. The A74 is a new motorway linking the A73 to Venlo with the German Federal Railroad 61.

The work involves construction of a highway (three kilometers), five bridges, two viaducts, two bike bridges, noise barriers, ecological integration and environmental compensation measures. With A74 the area around Venlo is more accessible, safer and more livable. In addition, the new highway helps boost the regional. The A74 will be ready for the start of the 2012 Floriade.
