For sun-deprived New Englanders like me who haven’t seen green grass in months, this sounds like heaven.

Floriade is a World Horticultural Expo staged once every TEN years in the Netherlands. During the period from April until mid-October 2012, the sixth anniversary of Floriade will be held.

“100 acres, 100,000 flowers, 30 country exhibitions, wine tastings, cultural shows, regional culinary delights. This is the EVENT of 2012 for flower lovers, and anyone interested in the green technology of the future,” says David Lutz, Collette Vacations’ Product Manager.

Here are 5 reasons not to miss the 2012 Floriade:

  1. Each day features a cultural program of music, dance, literature, theater and visual art from all over the world.
  2. Sustainable, pioneering, architectural eye catchers will be shown for the first time.
  3. Countless exciting and innovative educational attractions and activities make this a spectacular voyage of discovery for children.
  4. Enjoy a picnic surrounded by flowers and trees, lounge on the banks of the water and delight in the countless shows and parades.
  5. Explore the famous canals, flowers, beer and cheese of the Netherlands!

Collette offers tours through the Netherlands, such as the Legendary Waterways of Europe, and will be launching a special tour in 2012 that will feature the Floriade.

Until then, think Spring!
