This includes the announcement of the floating art pavilion, the revealing of the colourful panorama of plants and trees for the façade of the Flores Tower, the launch of project Growing Airplanes and the submission of the national participant Garden of Peace. Furthermore the first spring bulbs have been planted, which will bloom into beautiful ornamental onions in early spring.
Green light for floating art pavilion
At the heart of Floriade Expo 2022 the floating art pavilion designed by Studio Ossidiana will be located. The pavilion will open at the start of the International Horticultural Expo in April 2022. For at least five years it will function as an annexe and testing ground for the new art museum that will be developed later.
MVRDV has designed a colourful panorama of plants and trees for the façade of the Flores Tower, working in collaboration with Arttenders and Flemish artist Alex Verhaest. The source of inspiration was the building’s location, the arboretum that MVRDV designed for Floriade Expo 2022; using a digital scripting technique, this alphabetical plant and tree library was translated into an artistic composition to be printed onto the glass façade panels of the tower.
Garden designer and plant specialist Jacqueline van der Kloet has planted the first spring bulbs at Floriade. The Allium bulbs were planted in section 31 of the arboretum, part of the letter "A". They are the first in a series of 14.000 bulbs to be planted which will continue to flower after Floriade Expo 2022.
The Garden of Peace has confirmed their participation. Building a green, sustainable and liveable city where people with diverse backgrounds and cultures live together is the vision of Garden of Peace. This coincides with the theme of Floriade: Growing Green Cities. During the Expo visitors will explore best practises regarding education, architecture and the economy of nature in their pavilion.
The Dutch Foundation for Innovation in Greenhouse Horticulture (SIGN), Inholland University of Applied Sciences, biotech company Grown and Floriade Expo 2022 join forces to start on the development of aircraft parts based on horticultural waste. Aircraft manufacturer Airbus will offer support. The results of the project will be displayed during the International Horticultural Expo in 2022.
